Project Overview

This Matawan, NJ project turned a plain fenced backyard into a finished outdoor living space with a patio for entertaining, a clean connection to the driveway, and colorful plantings on every edge. Scenic View Landscaping designed and built the entire project, from the pavers and seating wall to the sod, planting beds, and lighting.

The project includes a curved paver patio with a contrasting border and low seating wall, a paver walkway linking the patio to the driveway, a curved planting island, a full-length planting bed along the privacy fence, new sod, and landscape lighting throughout.

Design and Layout

The patio was shaped with a rounded outer edge so it reads as a defined outdoor room rather than a rectangle stuck on the back of the house. A low seating wall along the driveway side raises the patio slightly and gives it a finished edge. Room was laid out for a dining table under an umbrella, a grill station, and a cluster of Adirondack chairs at the far end.

A paver walkway with a matching charcoal border runs from the patio to the driveway, so guests arrive on pavers instead of cutting across the lawn. A curved planting island sits in the angle between the walkway and driveway, softening the transition to the asphalt.

Along the wood privacy fence, a long mulched bed runs the full depth of the yard, giving the lawn a clean, curved edge and adding privacy and color without shrinking the play space.
